It is an immense privilege to lead Kanagawa Sohgoh High School, which was created as a model school in 1993 and has since been blessed with committed staff and highly motivated students. Our school is located in Yokohama, one of the most prestigious port cities in Japan. From our windows, there's a beautiful view of the bay bridge and Yokohama skyline. I am proud of such an environment since I believe that good education needs healthy surroundings and a pleasant atmosphere.
In addition to students from the area, we accept students who have lived in foreign countries, foreign students living in Japan, and transfer students. The diversity of students is based on the following ideas: providing an education which enables each student can develop his or her individuality through a suitable choice of courses, while also providing opportunities for students from different backgrounds to share the richness of their culture, language, and personality in order to foster mutual understanding.
The school program is unique in two respects: it has a Kokusai-bunka (International Cultural)curriculum and a Koseika (Individual characteristic)curriculum, and utilizes a credit system. The Kokusai-bunka course work emphasizes foreign language study and developing knowledge of foreign culture in order to encourage global citizenship. The Koseika course work emphasizes the importance of specialization in particular fields, and on cultivating future interests. Within the two courses described above, I believe that we have contributed to society by passing on the values of this school.
The key to our success is our ability to treat every student as an individual and encourage them to independently explore their interests while developing their skills. We celebrate our students' astonishing academic achievements, as well as music, sport, art, in order to broaden their horizons.
I am proud of our school and would welcome the opportunity to take you on a guided tour so that you can judge for yourself. I trust that we shall continue to provide a good education at Kanagawa Sohgoh high school, underpinned as always by our school motto "Seize the time".
